Approach to Acute Dyspnea Respiratory Distress:Pulmonary Embolism

The Lifelong Emergency Medicine Exchange and Discussion (LEED) Series was a new academic initiative by HAPSA-Nepal, designed to create a practical platform for discussing challenging topics in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in a simplified and context-appropriate way. The series was suitable for practitioners working across rural, resource-limited, and tertiary care settings, with a particular focus on adapting evidence-based guidelines to the realities of clinical practice in Nepal.

The inaugural session of the LEED Series was led by Dr. Andrew Beck on the topic “Approach to Acute Dyspnea and Respiratory Distress: Pulmonary Embolism.” Dr. Beck is the Coordinator of Graduate Medical Education, Associate Coordinator of the Rwanda Research & Development Fellowship, Division of Global Emergency Medicine, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Clinician Educator at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is a topic expert in Pulmonary Embolism, with a broad range of academic publications and experience in global emergency medicine education.

The series was led by Dr. Subarna Adhikari, a graduate of Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine, where he completed his MBBS and MS in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, followed by residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He currently works as an Emergency Medicine physician at the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health in Maryland, USA.
